This anime is unbelievably cliched. Episode 0 shows the anime as a normal harem, with your combination of an average tsundere pig-tail (Aria anyone?), black-haired soft and caring motherly type (Happens to be much forward than Siesta, though) , and other various female characters all somehow falling in love with the MC who also happens to be a clueless guy.
However, the anime managed to get me hooked in the first few minutes. In fact, the anime itself has probably forsaken the story to develop another section of the genre, which it has done pretty well -- the characters.
The first episode of How to Raise a Boring Girlfriend shows how meticulously each character was detailed. The starting few minutes of the anime is extremely powerful in conveying that message of our MC being a serious hardworking die-hard otaku. Not only that, the first episodes also hint into the relationships and tension between each character, setting up the premise of the entire story solidly. Not many animes manage to express the setting so quickly and effectively in one episode and Saenai Heroine just does it easily.
The OP and ED suits the anime very well, bringing a lively and cheerful atmosphere to the entire anime, as well as slightly explaining the roles of each character in the story.
Too bad I can't see Kato more in the first episode though. She was my most favourite female characters in the light novel series, for reasons that I prefer to keep silent on before the second episode is out. Let's just say that she is special in a way that you would never notice.
Fun fact: The author of the light novel that this anime is based on is an eroge script writer, so go figure. :D
